Our History
The iris Barnes School of Dance began its life in the late 1940’s, by the late Iris Barnes herself - a great inspiration to everyone she taught! Her life was dance and she always maintained that everyone deserved the chance to dance regardless of age, ability and disability. She did over the years share her love of dance with many people and I, myself feel very privileged to have known her. With her outstanding knowledge and talent, support and encouragement I would not be where I am today and for that I am truly grateful and she is greatly missed since her death in December 1989.
Since her untimely death the school has continued to go from strength to strength. The curriculum was expanded in 1991 with the introduction of Disco and Rock & Roll, with great success at competitions. The school has produced many successful dancers, teachers and choreographers that are performing in many parts of the country and West End Theatre. As a teacher it is very rewarding to see your young pupils grow and mature. I have a very individual relationship with all my students and I am very proud of their achievements. As the school enters its Diamond anniversary years, I very much hope that you continue to support your children in their love of dance.
